A few lessons learned

Teri's Run 9/5/2008 Downingtown, PAI’ve been looking forward to my second race for a number of weeks now. Fran & I signed up for Teri’s Run which took place on Friday, September 5th in Downingtown, PA. This race is dedicated to Teri Valocchi and others who lost their battle with scleroderma, or systematic sclerosis.

I have been struggling with insomnia for the past few weeks. Fran has been working crazy hours and has been exhausted as well. In the back of both of our minds, we weren’t really feeling up to this race but we were both too stubborn to admit it. I got home from work a little after 4 and took a nap. I got up a six, more exhausted than I was when I laid down. I mulled it over for about 10 minutes before calling Fran at work to tell her I wasn’t running. I think she was relieved that I said it first. She wanted to get stuff done at work before the weekend and elected to not run either.

I felt really bad about this but I was in no condition to run a 5k. I was disappointed in myself for not preparing properly. I want to apologize to any readers who may be trying to glean inspiration from my space on the web here. I am human and I blame nobody but myself for the lack of preparation for this race. Today is another day and moving forward is a necessity. I’m eying a few other races, both 5ks and others.

As I mentioned, my wife has been working like a crazy woman and bringing stuff home to work on as well.My SL avatar Vincenzio My lack of sleep has most likely been attributed to a more selfish endeavor, my addiction called Second Life. I signed up a while ago out of curiosity but am now a full fledged resident of this fascinating world. As if my first life isn’t complicated enough, right?

It’s a fun social outlet for me but the hours can just fly by. Warning: If anyone is curious about SL and wants to get into it, use in MODERATION. It can take over your life.

My avatar Vin, who is pictured here is obviously in much better shape than I am. He can drink as much Guinness as he wants and doesn’t have to get up at 4:30 to run intervals in an attempt to turn back the hands of time.

I can dream right?
